Music with Meaning
At the request of club director Marian Mejia, I wrote an anthem for the Up N Out Social Club, an Orange County-based nonprofit dedicated to replacing social isolation with activity and fostering friendships and community engagement for individuals with disabilities, including those with traumatic brain injuries. They organize events that help individuals get “Up and Out” and enjoy community outings, wellness activities, and social connections.
This song reflects the mission’s worthy aspiration to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being for individuals with disabilities. It is a rallying theme for club members, sung from their POV (Where We Belong) and performed live by them.
I was fortunate to work with two inspired singers, Pia Alvarez and Panky Trinadad, who lent their voices and their hearts to this worthwhile project. As always, Marty Rifkin did a masterful job of producing and performing. And Marian’s heartfelt input definitely steered me in the right direction.
