Music with Meaning
"One December day, in the spirit of the holidays, my late partner, Ron Grant, came to me with an idea out of the blue: 'Let’s write a Christmas song!' 'Where did this inspiration come from?' I asked. He said he had seen an amazing a cappella vocal group, At Last, singing on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, and that he could hear them singing our song.
What exactly that song was we didn’t know yet. But the creative process knows no rules, so putting the musical sled before the reindeers was fair game. Now the trick was finding a novel concept - no easy feat considering how many Christmas songs have been written.
Then it hit us: How about a song that celebrates 'the big guy' - giving back to the one person who makes it all possible every year? Yes, Santa! An Eartha Kitt song (‘Santa, Baby’) it wasn’t. This was strictly PG-13.
