Music with Meaning
"'One Step at a Time' was written with my late partner, Ron Grant, a talented film and TV composer and an inspiration to work with. Ron and I wrote many songs together, but this ballad was one of our favorites - an anthem to two people persevering through adversity to search for their dreams.
We realized almost immediately the song had to be a duet, with the interplay of two voices and the plight of two people perusing a dream together. At the time, James Ingram ('Just Once') was one of my favorite singers, and we were fortunate to get his younger brother, Phillip Ingram, along with Andrea Robinson, to turn this into an uplifting ballad.
We always felt this would be a fitting
theme for an aspirational film – and I
still do. In the meantime, it has been
used as a theme song for 'Cinderella
on Ice,’ which toured internationally."
