No Place For Hate 1000x1000.jpg

"One day, a dear friend, Les, sent me a photo of a woman in a crowd of peaceful demonstrators, holding the placard: NO PLACE FOR HATE. I got the message. Out of this came the inspiration for a song dedicated to restoring unity in our deeply divided nation—an antidote to hate and a plea to begin to heal some of our wounds.

The next step was finding the right singer. Another close friend, Kay, had heard a vocalist in her church whose voice was heaven sent: Tina Meeks. Was she ever right!

The pandemic restricted a lot of in-person recording, and no fewer than five studios were used to record all lead and background vocals, piano, and produce the tracks. Darlene Koldenhoven doubled as engineer and vocal director—and also urged me to change the line, Love will trump hate... to Love conquers hate… . Whew! Good call."

LYRIC

How many years must we try
How many tears will we have to cry
Before we finally understand
A fist doesn’t work
Like extending a hand
We’re not animals trapped in a cage
And reason works so much better than rage
It’s plain to see
Can we all agree
Love is the one thing that sets us free

There’s no place for hate in our heart
Hate only tears people apart
No place for hate in our heart
Letting it go is the place to start
There’s no place for hate
And no time to wait
When we let it go we let love in
There’s no place for hate in our heart

We gotta stop all the labels and names
They just divide us and fan the flames
We’re really not red or blue in the end
Better to reach out
And make a new friend
Oh our world isn’t black and white
It’s not about who is wrong or right
To bridge the divide
Gotta see from both sides
It starts in our hearts with arms open wide

There’s no place for hate in our heart
Hate only tears people apart
No place for hate in our heart
Letting it go is the place to start
Hate disappears
When we overcome fears
When we let go we let love in
There’s no place for hate in our heart

Hate keeps our wounds from healing
Divided instead of united
When we let it go, oh what a feeling!
Cuz love conquers hate every day, every hour
Love only love has that power… power!

There’s no place for hate in our heart
Hate only tears people apart
Hate’s not a sign that we’re strong
Strength comes from people getting along
Time to connect through love and respect
Let’s all do our part, best place to start
Letting hate go to let love in
There’s no place for hate in our heart
No place for hate in our heart!
